Who to contact

The fastest route to the right people.

I am always happy to help, but for some problems another service can act faster than I can. This page sets out what I can help with, what is better handled elsewhere, and the numbers you need.

Numbers checked 28 October 2026
If someone is in immediate danger, or there is a fire or medical emergency, call 999. For non emergency police matters call 101. For urgent medical advice call NHS 111.
What I can help with

Where I can make a difference.

Come to me

  • Kirklees Council services that have gone wrong or not been fixed after you reported them
  • Roads, pavements, potholes and street lighting
  • Bins, fly tipping and street cleaning
  • Planning applications and enforcement
  • Council housing and anti social behaviour
  • Parking, traffic and road safety
  • Parks, green spaces and community facilities
  • Anything where you feel the Council has not listened

Better handled elsewhere

  • Benefits, pensions, immigration, passports and tax: these are national matters for your MP. Find your MP
  • Housing association homes: contact your landlord first, and come to me if they do not act
  • Crime: report it to West Yorkshire Police on 101, or 999 in an emergency
  • Disputes between neighbours that do not involve the Council, and anything going through the courts
  • Gas, electricity and water faults: contact the network operator, numbers below

For most everyday problems, reporting it directly to Kirklees Council is the quickest first step. Keep your reference number, and if nothing happens, send it to me and I will chase it.
