About Akhtar

A brief introduction.

Cllr Akhtar Kasia on Election Day, May 2026

Akhtar Kasia was elected Independent Councillor for Batley East in May 2026. He takes a practical, resident-focused approach to the role, logging and following through on casework rather than treating it as a formality. He chairs Kirklees Council's Health and Adult Social Care Scrutiny Panel, holding health and social care provision across the borough to account. Outside the council chamber, he founded Downs and Special Friends, a local charity supporting families across North Kirklees, and remains involved in community work across Batley alongside his council duties.
