During a major emergency, official resources may need to be prioritised towards those most at risk. A prepared community can help support local people while additional help is on its way.
West Yorkshire Police asked every ward to put together a Community Response Plan, so we are building a register of local people, organisations and businesses who may be able to help in a genuine emergency.
You will only be contacted if your help may be needed during an emergency.
There is no commitment to be available. Joining the register is not a promise.
Your information will be kept securely and will not be shared without your permission.
Some examples of what local people, businesses and organisations have already offered.
Anyone trained and confident to give basic first aid support.
Nurses, paramedics, doctors and other trained healthcare staff.
Practical, hands on skills such as electrics, plumbing or general repairs.
Access to a 4x4 that could help reach people in difficult conditions.
Backup power that could support residents during an outage.
Cafes, restaurants or home cooks able to provide food at short notice.
Anyone able to help bridge a language during a fast moving situation.
Local social media reach, translation of updates, or help spreading word.
Takes about two minutes. You can ask to be removed at any time.
